IT’S not how many genes you’ve got, it’s what you do with them that counts.
That’s one of the key revelations about the human genome announced this
week.

The first look at our genetic panorama, the result of a massive effort by
both public and private groups, fills more than 100 pages in Nature and
Science. “It’s the first time we’ve stood back to look at the landscape
of our own human biology,” says Francis Collins, head of genome research at the
National Institutes of Health near Washington DC. “It’s a milestone of the
highest order.”
