Data thieves who rifle through dustbins will not welcome the CDestroyer. The
£10 gadget from London-based Rocky Mountain Traders makes it impossible to
retrieve confidential information from discarded recordable CDs. Normally, once
written, data is securely inscribed on the CD. Erase and delete commands do not
work and the powerful error correction used for CD-ROM lets even cracked discs
work when stuck together again. But CDestroyer traps the disc between two
abrasive pads which twist to scour the surface, making it physically impossible
for a laser to read.
