Ruth Deech

The Diary of Anne Frank (Puffin, 1997) is Ruth Deech’s favourite book. Her
parents were refugees to Britain from Austria. She trained as a barrister and
now chairs Britain’s Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, which sets
standards for fertility clinics, licenses embryo research and advises the public
and government on fertility issues. Deech sees herself as representing the lay
person, but still reads every edition of the journal Human Reproduction from
cover to cover.
