Europe should abandon plans to fund new nuclear power stations in Ukraine to
replace Chernobyl, says the 43-nation Council of Europe.

The European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
are planning to invest $800 million in new reactors at Khmelnitsky and
Rowno. But in a report published next week to coincide with the 15th anniversary
of the Chernobyl disaster, the Council of Europe says they have “no business
promoting nuclear power in Ukraine”. The money should be spent on “reducing
