There is no evidence for a link between the measles, mumps and rubella
vaccine and autism in children, according to a report to be published by the
Institute of Medicine in Washington DC. A committee of 15 health professionals
examined numerous studies on MMR and autism, and concluded that there was no
direct connection. What’s more, they found no plausible biological mechanism
that might explain such a link. However, the committee could not rule out the
possibility that MMR might contribute to autism in rare cases, and urged that
research in this area should continue.
