As any parent knows, children’s faces and TV screens are inexplicably
attracted to each other. Now a Japanese manufacturer has come up with the
answer: a gadget to discourage kids from sitting too close to the screen. The
device sits on top of the TV set. When a viewer gets to within one metre of the
screen, it sounds a warning tone for three seconds and then cuts the power to
the TV unless the viewer moves away. The device, made by Seitec of Kumayama,
even works when the all the lights in the room are turned off.
