Researchers at Keio University in Tokyo have developed a program that lets
you “evolve” your own typeface. The software treats various font
characteristics, such as line thickness or degree of slant, like chromosomes.
The program generates a population of candidate fonts from which you choose your
two favourites. Their chromosomes are “mated” to produce a new population which
is randomly mutated. You then choose your favourite two again, and continue with
the evolution until you’re happy with the font.
