The International Space Station finally has a front door. A new airlock,
named Quest, was carried up by the space shuttle Atlantis last week and
astronauts managed to wrestle it into place last Saturday. Before the airlock’s
arrival, astronauts wanting to take a space walk had to wait for a visit from a
shuttle so they could borrow its airlock. Even then the shuttle’s airlock could
only handle hook-ups for American-style space suits. The $165 million
Quest can handle Russian suits too.
