A necklace that listens to your breathing could give early warning of an
asthma attack, say scientists in the Netherlands. Mireille Oud at the University
of Amsterdam has found that respiratory sounds are a precise measure of
shortness of breath triggered by the narrowing of the respiratory tract in
someone with asthma. Her system monitors these changes with a microphone placed
just below the Adam’s apple. Oud says the necklace could also pick up breathing
problems in sleeping children.
