Cookies crumble

Computer cookies could be banned in Europe on the grounds that they infringe
privacy. Websites download these software tags onto your computer so that they
can identify you when you revisit. But some members of the European Parliament
are concerned that this will reveal individuals’ personal information without
their knowledge. MEPs will vote next week on whether to ban them. But Danny
Meadows-Klue, head of Britain’s Interactive Advertising Bureau, says that
Internet companies could lose £187 million a year in advertising revenues
