Flights of fancy

You don’t always have to prove something works to patent it. But if anyone
sees UFOs whizzing around in the skies over Bucharest, it may mean Romanians
Grigore and Panait Nika have got their ambitious “universal transport system”
off the ground (WO 01/611889). They describe a flying saucer, built from two
wheels that spin in opposite directions to “annul gravity”—like you
do—and at the same time creating a low-pressure lift effect over the upper
surface. They also explain how the saucer can be mounted inside a large globe to
create a handy flying sphere.
