Pint-sized portrait

By Barry Fox

2 March 2002

After theme pubs and quiz nights comes the latest trick to persuade Britain’s
drinkers to buy more booze. The drinks company Bass has developed a system that
prints your photograph on a pint glass (GB 2364515). A digital camera behind the
bar takes your picture as you order the drink. As the barman fills your glass,
an ink-jet printer beneath the pump nozzle prints the image onto the glass. If
the ink is permanent, the glass becomes a fun souvenir; if water-soluble, the
mugshot comes off when the glass is washed.
