Cat jab

6 April 2002

CAT OWNERS will soon be able to protect their pets from feline AIDS, thanks to a vaccine approved last week by the US Department of Agriculture. Between 2 and 25 per cent of cats are infected with feline immunodeficiency virus.

The vaccine, developed by Janet Yamamoto at the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine in Gainesville, is made from two strains of inactivated virus and will give cats about 60 per cent protection for a year.
