PEOPLE who suffer from hay fever are at increased risk of panic attacks.

Renee Goodwin of Columbia University in New York City used data from a nationwide survey that asked people about illnesses from hay fever to autoimmune disorders and also about specific mental health problems.

Goodwin found that people who reported hay fever were almost twice as likely to suffer from panic attacks (Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, vol 88, p 556). “There could be a common vulnerability to both,” she speculates. But she did not find any link between hay fever and other mental health problems.…
