Transporting bags of cash from shops to banks would be safer if pickups came at less predictable intervals, perhaps days apart. The trouble is, that would hit a shop’s cash flow. No longer, says De La Rue of Hampshire (WO 02/45042). Their new system uses money sacks with wires woven into their fabric and connected to a security tag. The tag contains a GPS satellite chip and a radio transmitter. After cashing up each day, shop staff seal their takings in a sack and tell their bank the amount of money in the bag.
