When pubs and bars screen sporting events, the adverts shown are exactly the same as those for viewers at home – mostly for domestic products such as washing-up liquid, baked beans and baby food. So why not gear the commercials in the pub for the boozy, sporty and mostly male audience? British satellite broadcaster BSkyB has a way (GB 2370442). Over a period of weeks, BSkyB’s new barroom broadcast system builds up a library of more male-oriented ads by monitoring everyday broadcasts for electronic tags buried in the ads that detail what category of product they are selling.
