Call to retract ban on shoot-'em-ups

FREE speech campaigners are urging a US appeals court to overturn a St Louis County ruling that bans the sale of violent video games to children. The group of 33 academics – including representatives from Europe and Australia – argue that the ban is not based on solid science.

“This is about protecting the public interest,” says Martin Barker of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, one of the signatories. He emphasises that no games companies are backing their campaign, organised by New York think tank The Free Expression Policy Project.
