Bad breath is often caused by bacteria on the tongue, especially if your mouth is dry after a night’s sleep. Tongue scrapers can solve the problem but are unpleasant and often painful to use. So French company Roquette Frères (EP 1222860) has cooked up a sweet which does the job painlessly.

Instead of being made with a smooth surface, the French bonbon is deliberately abrasive. Mannitol powder with particle sizes of around 400 micrometres is added to a minty candy mix, which gives the sweets the texture of fine sandpaper all the way through. Suck the rough mint after…
