Roasty, not toasty

By Barry Fox

Shaking potatoes before roasting makes them crispy and crunchy, instead of tough and leathery, promises Alan McKee of Teddington, Middlesex (GB 2374794). His bizarre kitchen utensil looks like a pair of transparent plastic coconut shells, hinged together. The insides of the shells are covered with sharp ridges.

You simply place a spud inside and shake the shells until the skin is fluffy and ragged. Roast it in the usual way and enjoy, says McKee.

The British patent office is unable to find any similar idea so the patent looks likely to be granted.
