KENYA

UN scientists have announced plans to explore the twilight world of biodiversity under our feet, as part of an effort to improve soils and raise agricultural productivity in seven tropical countries including Brazil, Mexico, Kenya, India and Indonesia.

CHINA

Work is about to begin on the first of three aqueducts that will carry water from the Yangtze River to the parched north of China. The multibillion-dollar scheme will be the world’s largest water project.

Damage to health, crops and fisheries from pollution and other environmental bugbears may cut economic growth by up to 10 per cent each year…
