A PROTEIN that helps geckos regrow their tails could help people regenerate lymph vessels.

Geckos regularly shed their tails to escape predators, then regrow them. Now Australian scientists have discovered that geckos produce a protein called vegf-c to stimulate the regrowth of lymph vessels.

A team led by Chris Daniels of the University of Adelaide will report in The FASEB Journal that the gecko protein is surprisingly similar to the one that helps lymph vessels grow in humans.
