Stem cells cure MS mice

MICE bred with a version of multiple sclerosis have been successfully treated with a new stem cell therapy.

Around 30 per cent completely recovered after injections of brain stem cells from adult mice into their spine or bloodstream. Mice bred with MS have paralysed hind legs, but even those not cured by the therapy showed big improvements in mobility, say Gianvito Martino and Angelo Vescovi of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy (Nature, vol 422, p 688).
