IT’S OFFICIAL. The European Union is losing some of its best brains in science and technology to the US at an alarming rate.

The latest figures make sombre reading. According to a report published last month by the European Commission, three-quarters of graduates who go to the US to study for PhDs prefer to stay on and join the American workforce after they qualify.
