NEPTUNE is a planet of four seasons, except that each season lasts 40 years.

Researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory studied images of the planet taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in 1996, 1998 and 2002. They show that cloud cover is increasing over the southern half of the planet, probably as a result of increased heating from the Sun, says Lawrence Sromovsky of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Like Earth, Neptune has an inclined axis. The southern hemisphere is now closest to the Sun and is moving into summer (Icarus, vol 163, p 256).…
