Peter Neufeld was born in Brooklyn into a secular humanist family that was active in the civil rights movement. He co-founded and directs the Innocence Project at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City. He is also a partner in the law firm Cochran, Neufeld and Scheck, which specialises in civil rights and constitutional litigations. He has worked in film production and written stage plays.
