MEN’S fertility falls dramatically with age. A survey has shown that older men take significantly longer to make partners pregnant than do younger men.

Mohamed Hassan and Stephen Killick of the University of Hull in the UK interviewed 2112 pregnant women, asking each how long they had been trying to get pregnant, how old they were when they stopped using contraception, and how often they had sex.

After accounting for disparities in the women’s ages, the scientists found those with male partners aged 45 and over were almost five times as likely to take more than a year to conceive…
