No more whining strimmers

A new way of moulding the cutter line in grass strimmers could restore peace to gardens worldwide (US 2003/0041463).

Proulx Manufacturing in California has found a way to silence the loud, high-frequency whine made by the nylon line as it spins and cuts grass at several thousand revs per minute.

First, two strands of thin nylon line are twisted together in a spiral while they are hot and soft. The strands bond to create a figure-of-eight cross section with V-shaped troughs spiralling along the line’s length. The hot spiral is then quenched in a cold water bath to make…
