HOW often have you waited “forever” for your train? We carelessly name-drop infinities yet rarely consider their true immensity. There are even different sizes of infinities – infinitely many, in fact – of which the ones we usually invoke are only the smallest. Happily, mathematicians have thought deeply about what endlessness really entails and, as The Art of the Infinite amply illustrates, doing so is well worth the effort.
