Spend, spend, spend

IRISH researchers are spending like never before. They are awash with cash thanks to research spending programmes that will pump €2.54 billion of state funding into research between now and 2006.

The cash has helped open new research units such as the National Centre for Human Proteomics at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and the Nanotechnology Group within Trinity College Dublin. Research centres are opening at the National University of Ireland in Galway, University College Cork and the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.
