WHAT an unenticing title for this marvellously interesting, even exciting book. Only in recent times did it dawn on humanity that fossils were records of life on Earth. Douglas Palmer tells the astounding story of what they have revealed so far of the Earth’s age and the teeming life forms it has supported through millions of years.
