Rabies in the UK?

IT IS minuscule, potentially deadly, and living somewhere in the British countryside. The rabies virus seems to be affecting bats across Scotland on a regular basis, leading to suspicions that the UK may not be the rabies-free haven it claims to be.

The finding comes almost a year after bat conservation worker David McRae became the first Briton to die of rabies for 100 years. He was killed by a bat bite, or more precisely by the European bat lyssavirus 2 (EBL2) lurking in the bat’s saliva.
