IF YOU thought the ozone hole had gone for good, think again. Predictions that it would be sinking into the Antarctic sunset by now appear wrong, for the hole has come back with a vengeance.

The annual spring thinning of the stratospheric ozone layer over Antarctica is as serious this year as in the record year of 2000, the World Meteorological Organization confirmed on 2 October.
