Phone sees double

Mobile phones with built-in cameras allow you to take a mugshot or a scenic view, but not both, Japanese phone maker NEC points out. To get around this, it has filed patents (GB 2384384 and US 2003/0117501) for a phone with two cameras, one pointing towards the user and the other in the opposite direction towards the surrounding landscape.

When a photograph is taken, the camera superimposes the two images, producing a picture postcard of the user posing in front of the local scenery. The company hopes the device will boost the popularity of picture messaging on its phones.
