Cloning claims

THE mavericks threatening to clone a human baby just won’t go away. This week Panayiotis Zavos, director of the Andrology Institute of America in Lexington, Kentucky, made a bid for respectabiltiy.

Zavos claimed a month ago that he had a frozen cloned human embryo ready for implantation. He has been practising by fusing human cells with cow eggs. Now he has been allowed to present a poster on his work at a human reproduction conference in Texas, claiming that human-cow hybrid clones can be used to identify the best type of human cells for cloning.
