STUNG by computer viruses that mocked its boss, blocked its servers and cost customers millions, Microsoft has finally put a price on the head of the authors of rogue code.

The firm said last week that bounties totalling $5 million will be offered for information leading to the conviction of virus creators. The first $250,000 is being offered for information on those responsible for releasing Sobig and MSBlast, two viruses that infected hundreds of thousands of Windows PCs earlier this year.
