ONE CABLE DOES IT ALL

The first personal computer to exploit a new form of power supply is about to go on sale in the US. The tablet-like Poet 6000 PC gets its power from network cables that usually carry data.

It takes advantage of a recently introduced standard known as IEEE 802.3af, which allows low-power devices such as tablet PCs and internet phones to obtain power from an Ethernet network rather than the mains. The idea is to cut the number of cables attached to each device.
