Plague scientist convicted

Thomas Butler, the researcher facing multiple federal charges after he reported plague bacteria missing from his lab, has been acquitted of lying to federal agents and of importing plague samples without proper paperwork. But he has been convicted of sending samples to colleagues in Tanzania improperly, and of taking payments from drug companies without declaring them. He could face a long jail term.
