Floating video screens – flat, rather than blimp-shaped – will be hovering over rock venues and sports stadia if an idea from German company Flying TV takes off (WO 2004/10214). It plans to use new digital video projectors that are now so small and light they can be hoisted into the air aboard helium balloons.

Flying TV is planning to mount a projector on one side of a rectangular box filled with helium, shining the image towards a large translucent window on the opposite side that acts as a screen. Electricity and video signals are fed to the flying flat screen…
