One cartridge fits all

There are too many different types of ink-jet cartridge around, says MVM Products of San Clemente, California. In patent application W0 2004/18214, the company suggests a simple idea that will allow one type of ink cartridge to be used in any type of printer.

The owner of the printer will initially need to buy an adaptor designed to match their particular model. The adaptor has a space for a universal ink cartridge plus a microchip that arranges for the printer, adaptor and cartridge to “talk” to each other and control printing.
