Automatic address book

By Barry Fox

2 October 2004

You’re back at the hotel after a day of meetings, with a wallet full of business cards and no time to key the details into your cellphone or PDA. Hung Tu of Taiwan proposes a gadget built into the phone or PDA’s charger cradle (US 2004/0169078) that will do the job for you.

Business cards inserted into a slot at the front of the cradle are pulled past a scanner, which transmits an image of the card to the PDA. Optical character-recognition software on the PDA reads the information, which is then added to the device’s address list.
