Tasers take off

DEBATE over whether pilots and flight attendants in the US should be armed with stun guns came to an end on Tuesday when Korean Air became the first company authorised to carry Tasers on flights to and from the US.

Following the 9/11 attacks, the US carrier United Airlines sought approval from the Transportation Security Administration to use stun guns instead of hand guns. In May 2002, United said its tests showed that firing Tasers had “no effect on airworthiness of the aircraft”.
