Crouching predator

10 November 2004

A rare set of fossil prints has been discovered marking the spot where a small predatory dinosaur squatted on its haunches. The animal leaned forward on its front limbs, shifted forward about 15 centimetres, then paused again, says Martin Lockley of the University of Colorado at Denver. The rich collection of dinosaur tracks, more than 175 million years old, were recently found in St George, Utah, and includes imprints of the animal’s skin.
