High-tech cocaine

Drug barons in Colombia have reportedly developed a genetically modified coca plant that resists the herbicides used by law enforcers, and also produces four times as much cocaine. The claims appear in a Colombian police file obtained by the Financial Times.

Spam vigilantism founders

A controversial attempt to give spammers a taste of their own medicine has ended barely a week after it started. On 3 December, web company Lycos Europe withdrew its downloadable screen saver designed to launch denial of service attacks on spammers’ websites. The project had been criticised as irresponsible and potentially illegal.
