VIKTOR YUSHCHENKO, the challenger in Ukraine’s disputed presidential election, may soon start a new treatment to get dioxins out of his system. Doctors in Vienna, Austria, announced on Saturday that he had been poisoned by a large amount of these highly toxic chemicals.
Yushchenko developed severe skin lesions, blackheads and pimples in September, after attending a reception hosted by leaders of the Ukrainian security service. The condition, known as chloracne, is characteristic of dioxin poisoning.
