Poisoned Ukraine contender can be treated

VIKTOR YUSHCHENKO, the challenger in Ukraine’s disputed presidential election, may soon start a new treatment to get dioxins out of his system. Doctors in Vienna, Austria, announced on Saturday that he had been poisoned by a large amount of these highly toxic chemicals.

Yushchenko developed severe skin lesions, blackheads and pimples in September, after attending a reception hosted by leaders of the Ukrainian security service. The condition, known as chloracne, is characteristic of dioxin poisoning. His blood levels of dioxin are 1000 times the threshold for acute poisoning, Michael Zimpfer, head of the Rudolfiner clinic in Vienna, told Âé¶¹´«Ã½.…
