Wide-screen TVs made with cheap electronics

Wide-screen televisions based on cheap plastic electronics could hit the stores in 2007, following a demonstration this week of a 40-inch prototype screen using organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).

The 1280-by-800 pixel screen, manufactured by Samsung of Korea, had all the touted advantages of OLEDs over today’s LCDs, including a wide viewing angle and no need for a bright backlight.
