From the ashes

By Maggie Mcdonald

3 August 2005

This year is the 25th anniversary of an event that frightened the world: the eruption of Mount St Helens in Washington state. The regeneration of the region’s wildlife has been closely studied, as editors Virginia Dale and colleagues show in Ecological Responses to the 1980 Eruption of Mount St Helens (Springer, £23). It is a collection of papers aimed at specialists from environmentalists to earth scientists.
