Perspectives: Watch the birdie

I DON’T know who the first person was to use the phrase “the good old days”, but that person was an idiot. Better in the old days? I don’t think so. With the possible exception of architecture, air quality and, of course, pie, things are much better now than they ever used to be. Yet an even more annoying phrase – “back when I was a kid” – seems to have slowly worked its way into my daily conversation. I’ve suddenly reached the age at which I feel the need to judge all situations by the way they used to be. And the way they used to be was pretty stinky. Think about it. In the old days…
