Koalas need a big home on the range

KOALAS are pretty fussy about where they live. And if urban development and agriculture continue to encroach upon their Australian habitats, whole populations could die out.

The animals need a range of at least 100 hectares of bushland, with 40 to 60 per cent of it covered in eucalyptus forest, according to extensive surveys in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria over the past three years.
