Japanese car-maker Nissan claims to have developed a paint that self-repairs slight scratches. It contains a clear, highly elastic resin that forms a protective coat over the paint. If the paintwork is dented but no paint is removed, heat from the sun warms the resin and returns the surface to its original smoothness. It will debut on an SUV to be launched this year, adding about $400 to the price tag.
