Margaret Turnbull, of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, presented her findings at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in St Louis, Missouri, last week. She analysed thousands of stars in a catalogue compiled by the European Hipparcos satellite mission.
